Molly Ivins (1944 - 2007) was a beacon of hope for Texas progressives and a fearless hellraiser. A journalist determined not to be pigeonholed as a traditional "women's writer", she counted many firsts for females in her list of accomplishments: first police reporter (Minneapolis Tribune), first co-editor (the Texas Observer), first bureau chief (New York Times). She is best known for directing her satirical commentary at the political figures of the day. In a man’s field where women were expected to be demure and deferential, Molly’s foul mouth and quick wit hit ‘em where it hurt. In Molly’s words, “The best way to get the sons of bitches is to make people laugh at them.”
