    About the design

Marsha P. (Pay It No Mind) Johnson was one of the most prominent figures of the gay rights movement of the 1960s and 1970s. Always sporting a smile, Johnson was an important advocate for homeless LGBTQ+ youth, those affected by H.I.V. and AIDS, and gay and transgender rights.

Marsha P. Johnson was born on August 24, 1945. Assigned male at birth, Johnson wore dresses starting at age five. By the age of 17, she was already a drag mom in New York City, and had taken a young Silvia Rivera under her wing.

Johnson is also hailed as one of the mothers of the Pride movement as she was on the front lines at the Stonewall riots on June 28, 1969.
